Schwarzenberská dechová harmonie

We cordially invite you to the lecture from the cycle Dialogo della musica, which will be given by Martin Voříšek (České Budějovice) on the topic of Schwarzenberská dechová harmonie – nové postřehy a poznatky (the lecture will be given in Czech).

The lecture will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 5 pm in the Musicological library IAH, Puškinovo nám. 9, Prague 6.

Poslední třetina 18. století je obecně považována za nejvýznamnější období hudebního života na schwarzenberském dvoře, k čemuž významně přispívala také činnost knížecí dechové harmonie (aktivní zhruba v letech 1767–1800). Členové tohoto osmičlenného ansámblu patřili k nejvýznamnějším vídeňským instrumentalistům; někteří z nich působili v dvorních divadlech a po roce 1782 také v císařské harmonii. Navíc jak samotný soubor, tak hudební úpravy jeho člena Jana Venta podstatně přispěly k definici žánru „Harmoniemusik“ a k jeho popularitě mezi tehdejšími společenskými elitami.

Martin Voříšek has served as the Head of the Department of Music Education at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice since 2019. He serves as the chairman of the Český Krumlov Castle Baroque Theater Foundation and is involved in producing opera and ballet performances at the castle theater. As a dramaturg for the local Chamber Music Festival, he emphasizes programming music from regional archives, often drawing on his own research and editorial work. He has authored various academic studies and the book Kapela schwarzenberské gardy (2010), and serves as the principal investigator of the research project Schwarzenberg Wind Harmonie in the musical life of the princely court at the second half of the 18th century. As a clarinetist and saxophonist, he actively performs jazz and swing music of the 1930s and 1940s.
