PhD Candidate, Department of 19th–21st Century Art

Lucie Česká is a doctoral candidate in the PhD program Theory and History of Fine Arts at the Department of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University Olomouc, and at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, under the supervision of Pavla Machalíková. Her doctoral research focuses on the exhibition activities of private gallery owners in the nineteenth century, with particular attention to their commercial and marketing strategies.

With her project Commercial Strategies and the Presentation of Art: The Journey of Nicolaus Lehmann and a Sensational Painting across Europe, she was awarded the Bader Scholarship for 2023/2024. She is currently a researcher in the project Spaces, Objects, Authors and Curators: Building a Cultural Public in the Czech Lands 1790–1918, which builds on long-term research into the history of exhibitions in the Czech lands, supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Strategy AV21 program.
