The publication traces the development of the Royal Game Preserve (Stromovka) from its origins as a private space reserved for the Habsburgs to its gradual opening to the Prague public, which was taken over by the Estates of Prague. Visual sources preserved in the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences document the horticultural and landscaping interventions of the 19th century, which increased the attractiveness of the site and shaped its present form. The picturesque environment, in which romantic architecture was surrounded by carefully composed plantings, attracted not only visitors seeking recreation, but also professional and amateur artists. In addition to a series of vedute, the publication also introduces the personality of gardener Georg Braul and his collaboration on the park's layout, which demonstrates the effort to create an overall conceptual solution for the complex.
