We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Democratisation of the Royal Game Preserve. Testimony of the Visual Materials in Window Gallery.
Opening will take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 6 p. m. in backyard of the Institute of Art History CAS (entrance from Na Perštýně street).
The collections of the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences contain a wealth of plans, drawings, prints, and photographs relating to Prague's gardens and parks. The exhibition at the Window Gallery of the Institute of Art History selects materials that trace the development of the Royal Game Preserve (Stromovka) from its origins as a private space reserved for the Habsburg dynasty to its gradual opening to the public of Prague. The focus is on the horticultural and landscape-design interventions of the 19th century, which increased the attractiveness of the area and shaped its present form. The picturesque environment, in which Romantic-period architecture was surrounded by carefully composed plantings, attracted both professional and amateur artists.
