Beket Bukovinská, Jan Kahuda, Lubomír Konečný (eds.)
The work is dedicated to the Prague collections of Rudolph II and their destinies, as reflected in the inventories from 1576 to 1860. The inventories, written from the 19th century in various places, are a primary source which sheds new light on the contents and value of the long dispersed collections. The book contains information on sixty inventories and lists, organised in chronological order, with all available data (descriptions, dates, locations) and supplemented by explanatory notes which help understand the source texts in the wider context of Rudolph’s collections, their history and deposition in Prague, and the subsequent dispersion in the course of the following centuries. The book also contains 25 documentary photographs, extensive bibliography, and index of names. This book by Jürgen Zimmer is a user-friendly, sophisticated, and inevitable companion to all future research into the collections of Rudolph II.
