Research Fellow, Department of Art of the 19th-21st Centuries
Lucia Kvočáková studied law and legal science at the Faculty of Law, Charles University (Ph.D. 2014), and later art history at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, where she defended her dissertation in 2020. The dissertation focused on the construction of Slovak modernist identity within the ideological framework of Czechoslovakism. It was published that same year under the title Cesta ke slovenskému mýtu. Konstrukce identity slovenské moderny v kontextu ideje čechoslovakismu (The Path to the Slovak Myth: The Construction of the Identity of Slovak Modernism in the Context of the Idea of Czechoslovakism).
From 2023 to 2024, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of 19th- to 21st-Century Art at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. Her research focuses on the relationships between visual culture, nationalism, and institutional practices in the formation of identity discourses in Central Europe, particularly in the Slovak and Czech contexts of the interwar period.
She is currently the principal investigator of the project Unveiling Cultural Identities: Presentation and Representation of Slovak Visual Arts in the Czech Lands 1918–1945 (GAČR 26-22685S, 2026–2028), which examines the ways in which Slovak art was presented, interpreted, and institutionally embedded in the Czech lands between 1918 and 1945, as well as its role in shaping cultural relations and hierarchies within the common state.
