Martin Pavlis studied art history at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University (Mgr. 2015). He completed his studies with a thesis entitled Against the Flow of Time: František Hudeček through the Prism of His Late Work.
Since 2015, he has been working at the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences as a specialist in the Department of the Photographic Library – Photographic Studio. His responsibilities include coordinating photographic documentation both in the field and in the studio, managing and cataloguing photographic materials in electronic databases, and overseeing copyright matters related to the reproduction of images for scholarly publications and exhibition projects, both in the Czech Republic and internationally. In addition, he manages the operations of the institute's Window Gallery and is the image editor of the scientific journal Umění (Art).
