Helena Dáňová – Ivo Hlobil – Klára Mezihoráková – Dalibor Prix (eds.)
This extensive three-part publication offers a comprehensive overview of the development of art and culture of the Middle Ages and Early Renaissance in the region of Eastern Bohemia from 1200 to 1550. This region’s art has been examined on such a large scale for the first time ever and the book is the work of nearly sixty authors – specialists on the subject. The first section contains synthetic studies devoted to key issues not only in the field of the fine arts that include painting, sculpture and arts and crafts but also inspiring treatises from the fields of history, geography, archaeology, architecture and urbanism. The following two volumes of the Catalogue present in detail individual works of art within the framework of their historical and art-historical relationships. The publication also explores the Central European context which, in this case, focuses mainly on the Kladsko region which in the period under discussion formed part of the Kingdom of Bohemia. The three-volume publication is accompanied by a wealth of pictorial material.
